The Role: The Welfare Leader plays a critical role in ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of our students throughout their program. This role involves providing support, guidance, and assistance to students, coordinating welfare-related activities, and working closely with other staff members to create a positive and nurturing environment. Welfare Leaders often have the best relationships with the students as they build trust through daily meetings and support in sensitive issues.
This role is subject to seasonal fixed term employment during the summer 2025. Residential and non-residential opportunities are available during peak periods.
Responsibilities
- Student Support:
- Be the pillar of support and encouragement for our students. Foster their personal growth, self-esteem, and resilience through positive interactions.
- Act as a guardian angel, ensuring the safety and security of our students. Be prepared to respond to any situation, from minor scrapes to offering a comforting presence in times of distress.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, helping students navigate the challenges they may face during their program. Your guidance can inspire them to overcome obstacles and grow.
- Student Orientation:
- Develop and implement orientation with the welfare team to help new students acclimate to the language school environment.
- Introduce students to school policies, facilities, and available support services during the induction tours
- Arrange daily meetings with your group of individuals, ensuring they receive fair and respectful treatment within the program or organisation.
- Accommodation Support:
- Assist students with accommodation-related issues and liaise with accommodation providers when necessary.
- Support the Welfare Manager to manage the laundry system, changeover days and student induction.
- Ensure that students feel comfortable and secure in their living arrangements.
- Emergency Response:
- Be a point of contact for students during emergencies or crises.
- Implement and communicate emergency procedures, providing support and reassurance.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of individuals' welfare, including incident reports, individual student meetings, and fire lists.
- Student Welfare:

- Check for student absences from classes and follow up on sick students.
- Supervise students on their breaks from classrooms, mealtimes and all other required times.
- Activity Leader Responsibilities:
- Assist the activity team in Activities and excursions when required.
Must Have
- A deep sense of empathy, compassion, and the ability to connect with individuals on an emotional level is essential.
- An understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- An ability to handle unexpected situations and resolve conflicts calmly and efficiently.
- The ability to handle emotionally demanding situations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good knowledge and awareness of Safeguarding.
- Valid work permit for United Kingdom
Desirable
- Previous experience in a similar role, particularly working with individuals in need of support or care, is highly valuable.
- Experience in summer camp environments is advantageous.
- Experience in crisis intervention and mental health support is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as social work, psychology, counselling, or education is preferred. Relevant coursework or certifications may also be considered.
- First-aid qualification is desirable.
- An Enhanced DBS or PVG.
